My motor no start. Once it tries, it hums and also eventually shuts off. I had a comparable problem in ~ the beginning of the season and also ended up changing the run capacitor and the trouble was solved. Pump/motor is a 1 1/2 StaRite. Motor is in reality a A.O Smith. Motor seems to run hot. Couple questions... Exactly how long must a pump motor last? I run it 24/7 - April come October. Just how do you check a run capacitor? any other troubleshooting ideas?
Welcome to TFP!!With the motor turn off (!) open the pump, eliminate the basket and also reach right into the earlier and shot to revolve the impeller, if the will turn the pump will probably work.If it turns but continues come hum, tenderness tap the motor v a hammer handle and also see if it doesn"t totally free up. Great luck through this, if girlfriend have any type of other questions, feel cost-free to questioning

I think I"ll need to open the pump up. Ns think over there is bowl that prevents reaching the impeller. Where perform I hammer "tap" the motor? Side?
*

Waste, you to be right, I could reach the impeller. Ns was maybe to relocate the impeller but no luck. Tapped the casing a few times v a hammer... No change. Flipped the power on and also off a couple of times yet it just hummed. The motor has two capacitors, can they it is in the problem? would certainly a faulty operation capacitor reason the engine to overheat under load?
Try tapping it a tiny harder v the motor on and humming - I"m thinking it"s more probably the starter switch and the tapping will cost-free the switch - though i can"t discount the capacitors (I"m not all that an excellent with the capacitor next of the pumps

- in reality I"m no real an excellent with just how motors work, but know a few tricks once they won"t work) If a pair good rap with the hammer gain the engine to start, I"ll phone call you exactly how to clean the link which is many probably just a little corroded.

There space some spring loaded switches top top the back of the engine (under cover). Here"s some an ext info... If i spin the impeller through hand and also hit the on move while over there is good rotation ... The motor kicks in and runs great. So i think the motor is good... It"s identify what is keeping it native making that an initial rotation.

Since it will keep running once you start it spinning climate I have to be think it"s the beginning capacitor if it has actually one. I witnessed a video clip on Youtube one time that had a table experienced that would only humm as soon as the switch to be flipped, but if the man turned the blade and flipped the switch once it to be spinning it would certainly work. If your motor has actually a beginning capacitor you can want to inspect it. Ns don"t know exactly how to carry out that though...HTH,Adam
FIXED! $10 "run" capacitor (top of motor) did the job. Not sure why last capacitor only lasted 6 weeks. It had actually a slight bulge. I will have to inspect with an electrician. Many thanks for everyone"s suggestions/help. Gain your pool!
